(Re)thinking Values in Europe

Within the initiative of ethical issues, values and norms in Europe, the Evens Foundation wishes to bring together think tanks in a series of seminars around the key values that underlie the European reality. These gatherings will symbolically take place at the very heart of Europe: Brussels.

The moral objective of these meetings is not only to put values at the core of discourse, but also to challenge think tanks to address and discuss their own values that lie at the core of their operations and research. Parallel to the age-old discussion on whether or not social sciences can ever be value-free, it is important to recognize that the discussion on values itself can never be held in dissociation of participants’ own values, norms, and ideological foundations. As such, for each seminar, we want to bring together several think tanks that might differ in their socio-political outlook to openly discuss key values that lie at the basis of our European societies, but also of their own operations.
